STORIES OF INSPIRATION AND EMPOWERMENT

KEVIN CARES FOR THE LIFE AROUND HIM

Kevin Ouma has life in his hands. The 15-year-old loves to spend his days tending to animals and flowers – a fitting passion for the aspiring agriculturalist. Kevin in part of George and Christine’s family at Maono Light, where he came to the community with his younger sister, Rose, after the death of their parents.

Now, Kevin is a brother to his 13 siblings. He’s known as the “team leader” of his family, which extends beyond his sibling relationships and into their family farm! Kevin cares for the family farm, which, at the moment, contains four rabbits, 24 pigeons and two dogs – needless to say, that’s a lot to handle. But even his parents remark at Kevin’s aptitude to labor with joy.

“Kevin is very responsible in all that he does,” his father, George, says, “including house chores, schoolwork as well as outdoor duties. He also shows respect both to his parents and siblings.”

But of course, working is only one facet of Kevin’s life. He enjoys spending time on the field playing soccer, Kevin’s favorite sport. He’s even been known to do the occasional acting – and was named “Best Actor” at a talent search in the community.

Kevin may have a full plate of life, but he is only in 6th grade. We look forward to seeing how Kevin changes as he grows and continues to walk down his path of empowerment!
