NEED & IMPACT

African culture has always utilized insects as a food source, and Black Soldier Flies (BSF) and other insect protein have the potential to not only feed animals but ensure sufficient protein to a population that will one day house half of the world’s child population. In addition to helping address food insecurity, this unique business venture will provide a creative way to diversify our Impact Investing portfolio. We have identified Kenya as an ideal location due to its perfect climate as well as the prevalence of food waste products for these non-disease carrying flies to feed. BSF is quickly becoming the choice of animal feed for farmers due to its cost effectiveness, requiring less land to grow feed, and high protein content. While this is a relatively new industry, we have researched several projects launched by large international foundations, all of which show a positive return on investment mainly because of its small-scale and low investment threshold. Our strategy is to partner alongside a current business partner is now in the production stage. This approach will allow us to explore the market for low investment and risk, as well as test a new business strategy of equity partnerships with agreed upon profits used to support our mission without needing to invest in a start up.
